Welding Processes:
Applying methods such as Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and TIG (GTAW) on plate and pipe.
Welders are among the most in-demand skilled trades professionals in British Columbia, offering strong job stability, competitive wages, and room to grow. As a welder, you’ll build, assemble, and repair the metal products and structures that industries across the province depend on.
Welding also offers a variety of career paths, from manufacturing and fabrication to construction and ship-building, using processes like Stick, MIG, and TIG. And with ongoing demand for skilled metalwork across BC, certified welders will be needed for years to come.
When you choose a career as a welder, you’re choosing a stable, fulfilling, and future-proof profession.
Through STEP’s apprenticeship job placement program, you can be placed in the right environment to gain hands-on experience essential to the welding trade, including applying welding methods such as Stick, MIG, and TIG, reading and interpreting drawings and specifications, performing cutting, positioning, tacking, and bolting tasks, and practicing worksite safety. You’ll learn to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals in different positions on both plate and pipe, and to carry out welding inspections and testing.
STEP’s welder job placements will give you the experience, confidence, and trade skills you need to build a successful career. With direct mentorship from experienced journeypersons, the certified tradespeople who supervise apprentices, you’ll develop the expertise to become a certified welder in British Columbia.
